Themes for the Blog

The current theme for Digi-Docket leaves much to be desired. It’s rather uninteresting and plain, but it was a decent alternative to the default “Classic” theme that appears on every new WordPress blog. I’d like to ask for some help and suggestions for a new theme for the site. If you have ideas, leave a comment below with your suggestions, and after choosing a few final candidates, I’ll put it up for a vote. If you want a place to start looking for themes, here you go:

Honestly, I rather like the current theme. It’s clean and well-organized. Rather like The Volokh Conspiracy’s site.

  • The Volokh Conspiracy’s site does have a clean interface. I’m especially impressed by the optimal use of the available screen width for filling it with text. My posts wouldn’t look nearly so lengthy when stretched across a widescreen monitor’s breadth. :-)

Dave Herrera has offered to work up a possible alternative for the site. When he has a chance to develop it, we can test it out and take a vote to see if the community would like to keep it as the theme. I’m relatively impartial to the choice in theme, so I’d like to leave it up to a group consensus.

As a note, I have been looking for a web project for sometime now and I have designed word press themes before. Jesse does this sort of thing every day at work.

Now while I won’t even attempt to argue that I am as a good a designer as many of the people on that site, I can say that a custom made theme would allow the site to function exactly as you, or the community, wanted it to as opposed to being forced to accept the layout of a theme constructed for more general use.

  • We seem to have a wealth of web talent in this group. Dave Herrera, Dave Hochanadel, and Pat Lisk have all volunteered to help design (at least in part) new WordPress themes. My original request was just to pick a favorite out of existing free WordPress themes, so the generosity being offered is certainly appreciated!

If you guys want to collaborate in any way, I can always help exchange email addresses.
